BUFSA works to enrich student life by sharing our Filipino culture through our annual cultural shows, general meetings, workshops, guest lectures, and more. Here are a few of our annual events where we share Filipino culture on campus:
Halo-Halloween
Halo-Halloween is an annual event when members dress up in costume and watch our annual Halloween video, meet new people and participate in our costume contest! We incorporate our love for food by making halo-halo, a Philippine dessert of shaved ice and a variety of different toppings (jellies, fruits etc) and enjoy a night of fun and friends!

Ingrained in Culture
Ingrained in Culture is a collaborative annual event hosted by BUFSA designed to find common ground amongst other cultures through food. The event brings together other cultural organizations to have dinner and discussion around a multitude of rice-based dishes. Each group contributes a dish representative of their culture, and the goal is to appreciate the rich traditions of rice throughout the world.
The event originally began in 2019 when BUFSA collaborated with seven other organizations for the event: Phi Iota Alpha, Students of Caribbean Ancestry, UMOJA, Vietnamese Student Association, Alianza Latina, and Liberty in North Korea. Since then, BUFSA has had a variety of organizations participate including Hawaii Cultural Association, Japanese Student Association, and Korean Student Association. |
ISA: The World is One
ISA is BUFSA's annual multicultural show that aims to show the BU community and Greater Boston Area the beauty that comes with diversity, and the amazing talents different cultures and communities of BU has to offer. It is one of the most culturally enriching experiences held by BUFSA as participants and audiences embrace the diversity of BU's student body through song, dance, and other forms of expression- traditional and modern. The first ISA was held in 1999, making ISA: The World is One Boston University's longest running multicultural show.

Other Cultural Events
Traditional Dance Workshops: In conjunction with our other productions, BUFSA hosts traditional dance workshops where members may come and learn traditional Filipino dances.
Filipino History Lessons: At our general meetings, BUFSA uses several ways to promote, spread, and preserve Filipino culture. Some meetings are educational in which we teach members about Filipino traditions, culture, and customs. In other meetings, we spread the culture through sharing Filipino food.
